Essentially, an ISDN line is a digital phone line that provides greater speed and bandwidth
than your regular telephone line. Real ISDN(not available in all areas) allows for a combination of both voice and data
connections over a single high-speed line.
Real ISDN can replace your regular analog voice line service on the copper wires with digital service resulting in greater
service capacity and significantly higher quality. Fortunately, ISDN service is provided over the same copper wires that
is used for your standard telephone service.
Using a regular telephone line and standard V.90 modem, the maximum speed of transmission
of data is 56 Kbps. With an ISDN line and the proper equipment and system configuration, your speed or throughput can be
as high as 256* Kbps (256,000 bits per second) - nearly 8 times faster! |
